Unfortunately, the way Nitrous Oxide gets to the laboring mother causes aerosol droplets in the air. During this pandemic, these aerosol droplets can pose a risk. Therefore, Emory Decatur Hospital is temporarily suspending the use of Nitrous Oxide. We know how important Nitrous Oxide is to our Moms and will work hard to get it back in use again as soon as it is safe.

As always, your safety, your baby’s safety and the safety of your team are our biggest concerns.

Thank you for your understanding.

Facts About Heart Disease in Women

There are many questions surrounding women’s cardiovascular health, like: What causes cardiovascular disease in women? What is the survival rate? And do women of all ethnicities share the same risk? The fact is: cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute! The good news is that many heart diseases are preventable, and if not, they are treatable. The important thing is to stay proactive and aware of the clear signs of a possible heart condition by paying attention to shortness of breath, rapid heartbeats, chest discomfort, dizziness, and lightheadedness.

Very Low C-Section Rate in Atlanta

The physicians at Atlanta Gynecology and Obstetrics, along with Decatur Midwifery, are excited to announce that commitment to our initiative of Avoiding the First C-Section is paying off in a huge way for our patients. For the first 9 months of 2017, our overall C-Section rate was 20%, which is 10% lower than the national average and 15% lower than the rates recently published by some Atlanta hospitals. Our primary C-Section rate for all of our first-time moms in labor was 14%, also lower than the national average. These numbers represent the hard work our midwives and doctors performed in shepherding our Moms and their families through sometimes long and difficult labors, tricky obstetrical situations, and heroic vaginal births after cesareans.

Congratulations to Atlanta Gynecology and Obstetrics, Decatur Midwifery, and our Moms for “pushing together “ for this great success story!
